MAGGIE GOURLAY
I've been working with:

Installation: Mending invokes healing, binding, sewing and stitching together what's broken; fixing involves construction, building, and progress. Tools of the trade for mending or fixing contain inherent value and purpose; when put to different purpose how do we assign meaning to them?

Two dimensional prints: In the architectural plan screenprint series I reconstruct former homes from memory. I use thread in architectural rendering to create a disassociation between a craft medium used for mending and the precisely constructed line of the architect’s pen. I also make screenprints that are more experimental and intuitive in nature. Thread is often a major component, as is pattern, and evoke references to wallpaper and upholstery pattern.
